Biden sanctions military leaders behind Myanmar coup

In his first foreign-policy test, President Biden on Wednesday slapped a raft of harsh sanctions on the military commanders of Myanmar who on Feb. 1 overthrew the elected civilian government and attacked people in the streets protesting the coup.

It is unclear whether the sanctions will have any impact. For a decade or so, the U.S. has rolled out sanctions aimed at pressuring Myanmar's military, with little success.
