Caught on Camera: Homeowner exchanges gunfire during attempted car theft

MEMPHIS, Tenn. ( – Local 24 News has obtained incredible new video in an attempted car heist that ended in a shootout in Eads.

While one man remains on the run, we’re hearing exclusively from the arrested suspect’s mother, who says she is thankful her son wasn’t shot dead.

Suspect Timothy Keen’s mother says she was shocked when she learned of her son’s involvement in an attempted car theft Halloween morning. She says he was a good kid but got caught up with the wrong people.

The homeowner in this case has provided Local 24 News with video of the confrontation taken from his Ring doorbell camera. Investigators say the homeowner confronted suspects he saw on camera in his driveway. According to the affidavit, one of the suspects fired at the homeowner, who then fired back, hitting Keen multiple times.

Keen was located after the incident crouching the doorway in the 11000 block of Doublegate Drive and taken to Regional One.

Investigators say Keen is now charged with attempted second-degree murder, burglary of a motor vehicle, theft of property, and possession of a firearm during commission of a dangerous felony.

“My son was almost killed, and I thank the Lord that he wasn’t killed. He’s not a bad boy, he just made the wrong choices and he’s with the wrong people,” Keen’s mother said.

She didn’t want to be identified but says her son has been in and out of jail since he was 18 and although he’s had a history of stealing, he’s never turned violent.

“This is just something different he’s been doing than he normally does. Normally he just steals, he’s never shot at nobody before,” his mother said. “I just couldn’t believe it it’s just so hard to believe.”
